Greenville (WBAP/KLIF News) – A retired Dallas firefighter has disappeared from his workshop in Hunt County. No one has seen or heard from Michael Chambers since Friday morning.

Chambers, 70, talked to his wife at 8 a.m. Friday on phone. His family reported him missing Friday night.

“He’s a great family man. He loved his wife dearly,” says Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks. “I don’t know if, somehow, he was protecting her.”

Meeks says Chambers spent a lot of time at a workshop on his property on FM2101. Meeks knew Chambers.

“I was a Sunday school teacher for several years,” Meeks says. “I’ve never known a more devout Christian man than Michael Chambers. I trust him with my life.”

Meeks says some items were missing from Chambers’ workshop. He says investigators found a small amount of blood, but there was no sign of a struggle. Right now, Meeks says investigators cannot confirm whether Chambers was taken against his will or if he was injured.

Investigators have reviewed surveillance video of Chambers at a store Friday. Meeks says they saw no evidence he was being followed.
