One Dead in Shooting Outside South Dallas Elementary School

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas police said one man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting outside of John Ireland Elementary School on Jim Miller Road and Seco Boulevard.

Investigators said shots were fired after the two men into an altercation outside of the campus around 7:30 a.m., just before school was scheduled to start.

The Dallas Police Department’s Melinda Gutierrez said that it started with an argument.

“The verbal dispute escalated with the suspect shooting the victim. The victim was then taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” she said.

After the shooting, the victim got into a car and managed to drive down the street before crashing into a parked vehicle.

Guiterrez said investigators are not sure if any kids were outside when the shooting occurred.

The Dallas Independent School District said that the school did not go on lock down and that no students or staff were injured.

The district said thanks to heavy police presence around the campus, classes went on as planned.
