Toddler Found Safe, Search for Missing Father on Denton Creek Continues

TROPHY CLUB (WBAP/KLIF News) – Search crews found a two-year-old boy wandering in the woods near Denton Creek Tuesday morning but his father is still missing.

The Trophy Club Police Department’s Tracy Shields said it was a miracle.

“He was wandering along the banks, he appears to be in good condition, he said he was cold and has some visible scratches. Other than that, he appears to be in very good condition,” she said.

Shields said the child has been reunited with his mother at a local hospital.

Several agencies, including the Texas Game Wardens, have been searching for the father and his son since Monday evening.

The search began after a boat containing fishing gear, a cell phone and shoes was found abandoned on along the creek, which is just west of Lake Grapevine.

Captain Cliff Swofford with the Texas Parks and Wildlife said authorities became aware of the missing boaters thanks to a passerby.

“They simultaneously called the local authorities, 911 and the game wardens,” he said.

They searched for over six hours last night.

“We searched until about midnight. Due to fatigue and the conditions being to dark for our guys, for safety reasons we decided to call the search for the boaters off and resume the next morning,” said Swofford.

He said rescuers are somewhat in the dark when it comes figuring out how and why the boat was abandoned.

“Right now, we don’t know anything about what happened. There were no witnesses. We’re trying to find anyone who may have been in the boat right now. We’re hoping for the best,” said Swofford.

Rescuers used boats, sonar technology and a helicopter in hopes of finding the missing father.

They’ve set up a staging area at Trophy Club Park.
