Burglary Suspect Shot After High-Speed Chase, Opening Fire on Officers

lewisville-chaseDALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A burglary suspect who led Lewisville Police on a high-speed chase that ended in Northeast Dallas is expected to survive after he was shot by a Dallas Police officer.

It started just before midnight, when officers responded to a call at the Regal Buffet in Lewisville on I-35E. Officers spotted the suspects car and when they attempted to pull him over, he took off.

Lewisville Police Captain Scott Haynes said the suspect pulled into the Regency Hotel in Dallas near 635 and Jupiter Road. He said the suspect ran into the building, two officers followed him into a hallway and then the suspect opened fire.

“You’re maybe four feet across and eight feet high and you have at least one bullet traveling down that hallway. There’s not a lot of room for error so the situation is very tense,” said Haynes.

Dallas and Farmer’s Branch Police provided backup for Lewisville. Dallas Police said their officers were forced to shoot the suspect after he fired shots at them. He was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A witness at the Regency Hotel said he saw the dramatic events unfold. lewisville-chase

“I just heard the gunshots. The police pulled out the gun and shot the dude when he came running through here, he was running through the hall. One of the police said he was going to pull out the taser then the other police pulled out the gun and shot him,” he said.

Captain Haynes said it’s a miracle no one was seriously injured.

“It ended good for us because no citizens were injured, no police officers were injured and we have a person in custody,” he said.

Authorities said the suspect faces numerous charges once he’s released.
