Lost Purple Heart to be Returned to North Texas Family

MIDLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – A lost Purple Heart will soon be back with its North Texas family.

The Purple Heart was awarded to World War II veteran Jim C. Carter who died in the 1980s.

It was found in a dumpster in Midland, Texas where Army Veteran Gary Kennedy tried tracking down the recipient.

“I got them from as far out as Honolulu, Hawaii and Denver, Colorado and as close as here in Midland and the Dallas Fort Worth area,” said Kennedy.

Kennedy eventually tracked down the recipient’s nephew who lives in Fort Worth.

Kennedy plans to meet the family members next week in Abilene to officially hand over the lost medal.
