Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Former Dallas Police Chief David Brown says he’s not in uniform anymore, but he’s not done working for the community.
A retirement celebration was held in honor of his 33 years of service to the city at the Meyerson Symphony Center. When asked if he was thinking about running for office, Brown said that’s probably not in the cards.
“I don’t see that on my horizon,” said Brown. “I really like the idea of being in a role that has a lot more flexibility to affect change. I’m looking for a true social entrepreneurial opportunity.”
He said he has some things he’s working on, but he’s not being specific yet. He hinted at a possible role in the media, and working with various law enforcement associations and organization, possibly in a policy role.
Brown says he also wants to continue working with young people in the inner city.
“Democracy requires all of us to participate in it. Rather than just complain about it or protest it, I think we have to put some skin in the game, on some of the issues we see as very pervasive throughout society,” said Brown.
He says he’ll continue to live in Dallas, but commute back and forth from New York, where he has family. His immediate plans are for a vacation to a “really nice island”, and to work on his golf game. Brown says he’s a 10 to 11 handicap.
