FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – An off-duty Fort Worth police officer is on administrative leave after being involved in a shooting early Thursday morning.
It happened at an apartment complex on North Normandale Drive, near Ridgemar mall.
The officer and an off-duty Tarrant county deputy sheriff were working security in the area when they heard a radio call go out about an individual being robbed.
They then confronted a man that matched the description of the suspect and told him to put his hands in the air. Instead, they say he reached into his pocket and pulled out a “shiny” object. That’s when he was shot by the Fort Worth officer.
The suspect was rushed to Harris hospital. He’s in critical condition.
According to police the object he pulled out of his pants was a box cutter. An investigation continues.
