DENTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Police in Denton are investigating after a man allegedly made terroristic threats at a surgery center and fled to the county courthouse.
Officers were called to the Texas Health Surgery Center on Bonnie Brae Drive around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. “Before they got there, the subject left the scene and drove to the Denton County Courthouse,” said Public Information Officer Orlando Hinojosa. “He made his way into the lobby and said he wanted to talk to some judges and hand out Qurans.”
Police took Peshwaz Azad Waise into custody. His vehicle is being searched as a precaution, according Hinojosa. “Nothing was said. No threats were made about anything in his car. We’re just making sure everything is okay.”
Several attorneys took to Twitter to describe the scene at the courthouse. Defense attorney Philip Ray said the man was “hollering with a Koran [sic] on the courthouse steps.” Attorney Pete Schulte said there were “deputies with AR-15s rushing around.”
No one was hurt in the incident.
