Wounded Fort Worth Officer Escorted Home by Colleagues

MATT PEARCEFORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – A Fort Worth police officer shot multiple times during a gunbattle received a police escort home after his release from a Fort Worth hospital almost two months after he was wounded.

Officer Matt Pearce was greeted by a large crowd of police officer, family and supporters that included Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald when he was released from John Peter Smith Hospital on Tuesday. Police say he will rest at home before continuing his rehabilitation in Houston from the March 15 shooting.

Pearce was shot during a gunbattle that left a suspect dead. Officers had been trying to arrest Ed McIver Sr. on aggravated assault charges and bail-jumping when gunfire erupted as he fled with his adult son. McIver Sr. was killed by police.
