Are there really? I’m in my 30s, and about to enter the dating scene soon for the first time since I was a teenager. A friend of mine signed me up on a dating site and remind me to NOT thank her. After about 2 hours of having my profile active, there were dozens and DOZENS of messages, full of compliments and clichés and strange suggestions. Not that I’m tooting a horn – I imagine many of these “profiles” are fakes. No-good individuals who possibly create several accounts to prey on newly-single and vulnerable women and their desire for affection. Then, another friend told me that she met and started dating a man one the same site who ended up stealing THOUSANDS of dollars from her!
Now, some of the propositions on the site are clever, and really get your attention. Others are, well, creepy or incredibly direct and forceful. But get this – this is a direct quote from one gentleman:
“After a rigorously brief overview of your profile, I wanted to let you know that I have already officially married and divorced you in my mind. Thanks for all the wonderful and imaginary memories…you will always have a special place in my heart.
Your ex-hubby, Manny.
P.S. You can keep the beach house in Hawaii as long as I can have the dog and my DVDs back :)”
Talk about grabbing your attention! But, I responded only to correct him that I, in fact, would be taking custody of the dog, of course.
Still not sure if there really are plenty of fish in the sea (as they say,) who are worthy swimmers, but this fish is parking it on a reef for a while.
