FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – A Fort Worth police officer is in critical condition after being shot.
It happened Tuesday afternoon when members of a task force tried to pull over a vehicle containing a wanted fugitive and a passenger near downtown. The vehicle fled. The occupants finally jumped out on foot near Camp Bowie and Longvue Avenue.
Patrolman Matthew Pearce was shot as he pursued them. Other officers shot and killed 43-year-old Ed McIver Sr. His son, Ed McIver Jr. was arrested several hours later in a nearby wooded area. It’s unclear if the 21-year-old was involved in the shooting.
Officer Pearce is in ICU at John Peter Smith hospital. He was hit in the mouth, leg and upper shoulder.
Pearce has been with the Fort Worth police department since 2009.
An investigation into the incident continues.
