Ok, I admit it I’m a geek when it comes to the Royals, fascinated by the monarchy as if they were rock stars. They also hold the key to one of the biggest mystery’s of life…what the heck does Queen Elizabeth carry in that purse?? She’s always got one, but what could she possibly need…an ID or cash??? Her face is on their money. In the words of the great Mel Brooks “It’s good to be the King”. Yes, I love following the Royal family. So this week when the newest Princess arrived I was all geeked out… waiting for the birth… is it a boy or a girl and what will they name it???
I love watching movies or TV shows about Kings, Queens and the history around them. You must admit that the Royal families are the ultimate reality show….from the soap opera drama of King Henry VIII or the fairy tale come true for the movie star that became Princess Grace of Monaco, to the history of where we come from. I’m Scottish, so I particularly like Braveheart and now I’m hooked on Outlander! But I digress…It all started long ago for me when I got hooked on the love story of Diana and Prince Charles. On the day of their wedding I got up in the middle of the night and started watching the coverage from London. Spent hours focused on the TV to finally see “the dress”. And the kiss on the balcony that made the whole world smile. It was also in the middle of the night when I woke up to sound of the TV I had left on and learned that that same Princess had died in a terrible car accident. I then watched her funeral and my heart ached for those two precious little boys she left behind. Two little Princes that I have enjoyed watching grow up, one the future King of England who had his own spectacular Royal wedding and who now has his own little Prince and Princess.
Two years ago I was on the air when the news flash came down that Prince George had been born. I’m pretty sure I was the first person to break the news in DFW (or so I like to believe) and I was on cloud nine, giddy with excitement over a new royal! And now we have the birth of a new Princess…and OMG how good did Kate look just 10 hours after giving birth! The world started taking bets on what the royal couple would name her and I think we were all thrilled with the choice…Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, a fitting tribute to her royal heritage. And when she has her Royal wedding…I’m sure I’ll be watching.
