North Texans Urged to be “Weather Aware” with Threat of Severe Storms

(WBAP/KLIF) – State and county governments are on high alert with the threat of severe weather late Friday and overnight.

The Collin County Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring the weather and ready to enact any safety plans that may be needed.

“As a county we are here to support our cities if something were to occur,” said Collin County Assistant Emergency Management Specialist Randall Gurney. “We’re standing by and are standing by to support.”

The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management encouraged all residents and businesses Friday to bring plants and small items inside that might be a hazard in high winds.

“Secure any outdoor furniture, grills, construction equipment, supplies, or anything else that could be caught up in high winds to reduce the risk of flying debris,” the office said in a statement.

The city reminded residents that weather alerts come from apps, media, and EAS messages.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management is placing boats, helicopters, rescue teams, medical strike teams, additional law enforcement and volunteer organizations on standby across the region to ensure the state is ready to respond to any requests for assistance from local government officials.

“As severe weather approaches the state of Texas, resources have been placed on standby to assist local officials in the event they are needed,” said Governor Abbott. “All residents should heed warnings from local officials and pay attention to weather alerts. I ask that all Texans keep those in the storm’s path and all of Texas’ first responders in their prayers as they deal with the effects of this storm.”

According to weather experts, the greatest weather threat in North Texas Friday and overnight is high winds and heavy rains.
