DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The suspect wanted in the mistaken shooting death of a 9-year-old girl is in Police custody.
According to DPD, 9-year-old Brandoniya Bennett became an innocent victim when the alleged shooter opened fire on the wrong apartment. Brondoniya was killed while sitting on her couch.
“She was supposed to start school today,” Major Danny Williams said Thursday afternoon. “She got her nails done yesterday.”
Major Williams said it’s believed the shooting was prompted by an argument between two local rappers.
“In their rap songs they dis each other,” said Williams. “It got to the point where this group wanted to come over and solve it by fighting.”
Investigators believe Tyrese Simmons fired gunshots into what he thought was his rivals apartment, but Instead it was the home of Brandoniya. Simmons fled the scene.
According to Police, Simmons turned himself in Thursday night.
