DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Imposters posing as Oncor Electric employees are targeting elderly residents in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas in an attempt to obtain customers’ financial and personal data. Andy Rittler with Oncor says they are requesting to view the most recent utility bill and might say they are there to make sure the individual has received their “senior discount.”
“Any of the work that we do will first and for most will be performed outside of your home. There is no reason for us as Oncor employees to enter into your home for any reason,” said Rittler.
Rittler said that Oncor will try to let customers know if any advance work is taking place but sometimes these notices are missed. He emphasizes that if anyone feels like they’re in any danger at all, even by an Oncor employee, to call the police.
“Oncor Electric Delivery will not ask for any payment in person or over the phone. That should be a clear signal out of the gate that you are dealing with an imposter,” said Rittler.
Rittler cautions customers that the imposters will only use the Oncor logo on letterheads and other documents. He said the most important places to look for the Oncor logo is on clothing, photo ID badges and vehicles. Rittler said that Oncor wants the public to be educated on what an imposter posing as an employee may look like to avoid anyone else falling victim to this scam.
