Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – An online publication says an AT&T-owned building in Old East Dallas is one of many being used to eavesdrop on Americans.
The Dallas Morning News cites a report by ‘The Intercept,’ saying the fortress-like building at 4211 Bryan Street houses sophisticated telecommunications networking equipment used for the NSA controversial secret spy program.
In a statement, the Dallas-based AT&T said that the company provides voluntary assistance to law enforcement when a person’s life is in danger and in other immediate, emergency situations; and that they ensure all request are valid.
“Like all companies, we are required by law to provide information to government and law enforcement entities by complying with court orders, subpoenas, lawful discovery requests and other legal requirements. And, we provide voluntary assistance to law enforcement when a person’s life is in danger and in other immediate, emergency situations. In all cases, we ensure that requests for assistance are valid and that we act in compliance with the law.”
AT&T officials also referenced the company’s transparency report.
The Intercept says it has identified similar AT&T facilities in Atlanta, Chicago,LA and elsewhere.
According to The Intercept, NSA “considers AT&T to be one of its most trusted partners” due to the company’s willingness to help.
