DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — As Congress struggles to revise the nation’s immigration policies Texas continues to lead the nation in immigration-related arrests and the Dallas area is at the top of the list.

According to a report from the Pew Research Center the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency arrested more than 16,500 people in the Dallas region during the fiscal year that ended in October. North Texas public broadcaster KERA says that was an increase of nearly seven thousand from the previous year.

ICE arrested approximately 13,500 people in Houston and Atlanta, followed by Chicago, San Antonio and Los Angeles with about 8,500 arrested in each of those cities.

Somewhat surprisingly the border city of El Paso was among the cities with the fewest ICE arrests in the past year.
