Cyber Security Attorney Says “Be Vigilant”As Data Breaches Will Continue

Americans are outraged about the Equifax data breach that exposed the personal and financial data of 143 million people.

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF News)As the former CEO of Equifax Richard Smith testified before Congress about company’s data breach in March, millions are wondering how to protect their personal information after the credit monitoring company was hacked in March. Frisco-based attorney Shawn Tuma of Scheef &Stone says one of the best things that can be done is a credit freeze.

“For people who do not use their credit on a regular basis, make sure to put a credit freeze on your accounts because that’s really the best way to prevent malicious attacks on your information,” according to Tuma.

The government website www.ftc.gov explains how to do a credit freeze and Tuma also recommends going to www.annualcreditreport.com to monitor credit activity.
