Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price Will Not Be Retried

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Department of Justice said it will not retry Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price on corruption charges.

Price and his co-defendant, his assistant Daphne Fain, were found not guilty on fraud and corruption charges last month after a seven-week trial.

A trial against political consultant Kathy Nealy on charges related to the case was pending.

United States Attorney of the Northern District’s John Parker issued a statement about his decision.

“Although I am disappointed in the outcome of this case, my responsibility is larger than the consideration of my subjective views.  I must objectively consider the totality of circumstances that the prosecution now faces.  Having painstakingly done so, it is my considered judgment that pursuing another trial against Mr. Price will not serve the interests of justice.  I have concluded the same is true regarding the pending trial against Ms. Nealy.”

The jury deliberated for eight days before acquitting Price of bribery and mail fraud.

Jurors told the judge they were unable to reach a decision on the four counts of tax fraud against Price.
