Frisco (WBAP/KLIF News) – Developers have broken ground on two hotels as part of a mixed-use development near “The Star” in Frisco. The hotels, both owned by Marriott, should open next year.
Frisco Station will be built with five million square feet of office space and 2,400 apartments.
“You’ve got Baylor, Scott and White Hospital, Scottish Rite across the street, The Star, of course. Now, they’ll work together,” says Frisco Mayor Maher Maso. “It’s really a new lifestyle, where people can live, work, play and visit all in one place.”
One of the hotels will be Residence Inn. The other will carry the brand, AC Hotel. The hotel will be the first with the brand name in North Texas. AC Hotel was founded in Spain to offer more collaborative workspace for guests who are in Frisco for work.
Frisco Station will cover 242 acres. Maso says the project is part of Frisco’s effort to become a “futuristic city” that focuses on innovation and sustainability. He says the city has tried to avoid gaining a reputation for a single development.
“It is a destination,” Maso says. “Every professional sports team in DFW has a presence here. Mayors from around the country were just here last week to see how we married youth sports with professional sports and tourism.”
